Advanced Guitar Classes at Theme comprises preparation towards:
1. LCM (or equivalent) practical examinations of Grades 4 and higher. 
2. Competitions, recitals or other performances that require solo guitar playing
3. Auditions for acceptance to national or international music universities or colleges

All Advanced Guitar Classes are solo lessons of 45 minutes each (1 hour in case of Grades 7 and above). Fee is charged quarterly and due to the nature of the learning involved, is open-ended. Students can choose to work towards a goal that is either time based (like an upcoming competition or recital) or skill-based (like expanding your repertoire).

Admissions into advanced lesson slots are based solely on auditions. Depending on your lesson goals, we will conduct in-person assessments to determine the correct faculty for you*. We accept all ages for advanced courses.

Theme’s Adult Beginner Guitar Course (TAGC) is a revolutionary hybrid solo plus group piano learning program for students aged 18 and above, focussed on beginner and intermediate levels.

TAGC is a 2 level program built around the concept of preparing students towards independent playing, reading and performance, constructing a strong repertoire across various genres of music, inculcating skills that prepare students to be able to play music that they enjoy. The objective of the course is to enable students to learn the piano formally and gain performance expertise alongside assessments. Each level of the program is devised keeping in mind the London College of Music Examination benchmarks.

Each level consists of 45 minute solo sessions plus 1 hour group sessions, progress analysis classes, recital classes, special performances and concerts and provides every student an equal opportunity to perform and get assessed at the highest international standards.

Students enrol as beginners entering the program into one of the following levels. Each batch consists of students of a similar age and playing level. Students can opt to appear for LCM examinations or internal assessments if they wish to not pursue examinations.

Theory – Step Theory

All TAGC lessons are a hybrid model of 3 solo lessons plus one group lesson per 4 classes. There will be a group lesson after every 3 solo lessons (or according to the level plan of the course). All solo lessons are 45 minutes and group lessons are 1 hour in duration with a maximum of 4 students in the batch. The Group classes enable ensemble playing and group learning for certain concepts. Students also prepare for performance events in a group.

Each level has a certain number of buffer lessons included that enable teachers to revise concepts, cover-up missed lessons*, prepare students for recitals and examinations and allocate additional time to all students as required.

All classes consist of structured lesson plans and homework material. A monthly report is sent to students detailing class performance and areas of improvement.

  4. Time Signatures:
    • Introduction to Incomplete Bars
  5. Eighth Notes and Rests
  6. Dynamics and Articulation
  7. Note Reading (Tablature and Staff):
    • All Types of Accidentals
  8. Extended Fretboard Knowledge
  9. Introduction of Rhythm Styles:
    • Straight vs Swing Rhythms
  10. Introduction to Improvisation:
    • Improvisation over basic chord changes
  11. Sight Reading of Tablature
  12. Continuation of Aural training
  13. Basic Musical Markings
  1. Focus on all round musical development, including repertoire work, playing technique, scales, sight-reading, aural training and music theory.
  2. Individual class plans charted out for each session. Required practice and homework are treated as an integral part of the learning system.
  3. Concepts are taught through activities and practical work that are constantly innovated upon by the faculty, ensuring an updated curriculum.
  4. Constant feedback and reporting on every student per month including objective grading as well as subjective teacher feedback. 
  5. Exclusive performance opportunities, both internal and external that culminates in an annual concert and an external annual showcase.
  6. Assessments and International Examination syllabus integrated into class plans. 
  7. A special focus on improvisation and composition.
  8. A hybrid format of learning that includes the benefits of both solo and group, including greater time flexibility, ensemble playing and building a community of people to play with. Students are of a similar age group and learning levels with a maximum student-teacher ratio of 4:1

Theme’s Intermediate Guitar Course (TIGC) is a revolutionary hybrid solo plus group guitar learning program for students of all ages. This program allows students that have either qualified through the Junior Guitar Program or can demonstrate sufficient understanding and playing skills to enrol in the intermediate program. Students pick between the acoustic steel string and electric guitar to study further.

TIGC is a 2 level program built around the concept of preparing students towards independent playing, reading and performance, constructing a strong repertoire across various genres of music, inculcating skills that prepare students to be able to play music that they enjoy. The objective of the course is to enable students to learn either acoustic or electric guitar formally and gain performance expertise alongside assessments. Each level of the program is devised keeping in mind the London College of Music Examination benchmarks.

Each level consists of 45 minute solo sessions plus 1 hour group sessions, progress analysis classes, recital classes, special performances and concerts and provides every student with an equal opportunity to perform and get assessed at the highest international standards.

Students enter the program into one of the following levels. Group classes consist of students of a similar age and playing level. Students can opt to appear for LCM examinations or internal assessments if they wish to not pursue examinations. Students will appear for LCM examinations for Acoustic Guitar and LCM or Rockschool for Electric Guitar.

Theme’s Junior Guitar Course (TJGC) is a contemporary group guitar learning program for students aged 8 to 13 years, focussed on beginner and intermediate students.

TJGC is a 2 level program based on the concept of performance-oriented learning. Concepts and techniques are taught using examples from popular music, simple yet critical exercises and listening skills, which leads to a holistic guitar playing experience. The focus of the program is purely on playing skills that are built up gradually using relevant music from different genres, utilizing composition and improvisation as essential focus areas from the start.  

Each level of the program is devised keeping in mind the London College of Music Examination/Rockschool/Trinity Rock and Pop benchmarks. Students are assessed through practical and theory examinations that they appear for at the end of each level.

Each level consists of 1-hour teaching sessions, progress analysis classes, recital classes, special performances and concerts and provides every student with an equal opportunity to perform and get assessed at the highest international standards.

Students enrol as beginners entering the program into one of the following three age levels (Entry Points). Each group batch consists of students in the same Entry Point.
